Further to the theft and destruction to the shelter, toilets, tables, and other infrastructure at the Mangamate Campsite in October of this year, it has also come to our attention that fence posts have been taken from the Ngāti Whare Regeneration blocks, located along the Mangamate Campsite access road, large numbers were taken while contractors were working at the site, but also a large amount of posts have been taken from the ground since the fence was completed.
Because of the issues mentioned here above, and concerns related to health and safety, Te Runanga o Ngāti Whare regretfully announce, the campsite will be closed using a gate to prevent vehicle access and further large-scale theft from occurring across the site. During the closure a site assessment, maintenance programme and maintenance will be completed with an alignment to industry standards.
The site will be closed from Friday 15th December 2023, re-opening on the 28th of October 2024.
The closure is a restorative measure to provide time for the whenua to heal itself after receiving so much abuse this year before it is reopened again in 2024.
Te Runanga o Ngāti Whare apologise for any inconvenience this might have on plans to use the site during the closure.
Ngā mihi,
Te Runanga o Ngāti Whare
